Teddy Ferrara looks at the reactions of students and administration after the death of student Teddy Ferrara, an openly gay freshman. Goodman Education invited students and recent graduates to discuss the outlets and resources for LGBTQ youth.
Alex Sennello is a senior at Lake Forest High School. Along with being a member of the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance Youth Commitee, Alex co-founded the not for profit TSER (Trans Student Equality Resources), lobbied for GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), and started to Gender Sexuality Alliances on her school’s campus.
Franchesca Cristoforo is a freshman at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A member of multiple LGBTQ groups on campus, she is the president of the Gender Umbrella Society at UIC.
Margaret Smith is a recent graduate of Skidmore College, majoring in Theatre/Directing and Gender Studies. Margaret was member of her campus’s Pride Alliance, and she began LGBTQ student tours for prospective freshman. Her graduating thesis delved into the gender and identity issues of the play Dog Sees God: Confession of a Teenage Blockhead by Bert V. Royal.
Nene White is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago. While at UIC, she was a member of the Gender and Sexuality Center and the Gender Umbrella Society on campus. Her senior project focused on creating safe zones for African-American LGBTQ students, which led to the creation of multiple safe zones of either LGBTQ minorities.
