Dramaturgs are essential to the production of a show. They help the director clarify their idead for the stage. A main member of the artistic team, a dramaturg often provides background research to the director, cast, and design team to help inform their choices and ideas in their respective roles. On new plays, dramaturgs act as a sounding board for the playwright, helping them edit their work until it is ready for the stage.
